With the help of the community, the Augusta High School Band will be going to Washington D.C. during Spring Break.
Fundraisers have been going strong for a number of months and with the $1,000 donation from the local Lions Club’s Christmas tree lot fundraising, the band has officially raised the required amount needed for all the band members to make the trip, which will be March 19-25.
Groups like the Augusta Lions Club stepped up to help the band’s efforts.
Lions President Bill Buggeln said, “Our Christmas tree lot was very successful this year. Thanks go to the community, Pat and Diane at ACE Hardware and the band kids who all made it happen. We’re donating a third of the sales to the band in order to help with the trip and assist a couple of kids who helped considerably at the tree lot. It’s our contribution back to the community, as well.”
Band director Todd Hollis advised that many people and organizations helped make the trip a reality, “I’m afraid that I would leave someone out if I tried to start thanking people. One person who was most valuable is Mrs. Kerry Ashenfelter, the band mom who served as our accountant and kept track of the students’ individual accounts. This trip would not be possible if it weren’t for her.”
Hollis also reports that for a few of the band members, the trip will take them farther away from home that they’ve ever been.
“This is a trip of a lifetime for all of the Augusta band members and one that they will never forget.”
