TOPEKA, Kan. — Legislation outlawing synthetic drugs that mimic the effects of marijuana has been approved by the Kansas Senate.
Thursday's 37-1 vote sent the measure to Gov. Mark Parkinson.
The bill outlaws chemical substances that are added to herbs and smoked by users to get the same effects as smoking marijuana. The substances are sold frequently under the name "K2."
Senators had approved a similar measure earlier in the session. The House made one addition to the measure, adding a compound that mimics the illegal, euphoria-inducing drug Ecstasy.
Democratic Sen. David Haley of Kansas City cast the lone vote against the legislation.
