Jerry Maier, owner of Flinthills Nursery of Augusta, is now the president of Depthflector® Incorporated and is introducing a new product, the Depthflector earth auger attachment.
The simple clamp-on attachment was designed and engineered to eliminate the post augering need for hand clean out of augered holes, which has been a constant back breaking problem since the invention of earth augers.
In addition, positive depth control is gained when using the Depthflector.  The attachment is meant to fit on earth  augers 6” through 36” in diameter that are powered by either a skid loader hydraulic auger attachment or a tractor mounted 3-point power take-off driven unit.
Primary industry uses include construction, fence building and tree planting.
After a day of digging lots of holes for planting trees in November of 2008, Maier kept thinking there had to be an easier way to drill a hole one time only and not worry about redrilling the hole and rid it of loose fill.
“I just knew there had to be a better way.  My first prototype was a piece of iron welded onto an auger.  It wasn’t quite right, but the idea was.  I visited with Kevin Payne and Gary Samms of Galaxy Tools in Winfield, and they helped me tremendously with the early prototype design and then with the manufacture of the final product,” Maier added. “It’s simple and effective.”
And the result is a high quality professionally product which offers economic benefits -- saving time, fuel and excess wear on equipment, creating a safer auguring operation, and a quick return on investment.
