Most of those attending Thursday night’s information forum on the Kelly & Ohio roundabout project were critical of city leaders for not having a pre-information meeting or vote on the item.
Mayor Kristey Williams told the group that the public seldom attends council meetings where taxes or utility rates are increased and she had no idea the roundabout would become such a talking point.
Alexander Tauke, son of Denise Tauke, Wichita, graduated from Level 1 of the Future Astronaut Training Program (FATP) this month at the Kansas Cosmosphere & Space Center, Hutchinson.
Tauke will be a seventh grader at Andover Middle School this fall.
The four-day, introductory astronaut camp is for students entering grades 6-8 and emphasizes teamwork, leadership and problem solving. Developed by Cosmosphere staff, FATP is a nationally recognized camp that motivates campers to seek careers in aerospace-related industries.
After pedaling 533 miles in eight days across Kansas and playing a few rounds of golf along the way, Len Hudson of Augusta feels a sense of accomplishment. He participated in the annual Bike Across Kansas (BAK) event which began at the Colorado border near Goodland and ended in Leavenworth, near the Missouri state line. The median age for the riders is 56 and many of them, like Hudson, were first time participants.

Butler County residents will be paying more for Five-Star childcare.
Butler Board of Trustees members gathered Tuesday evening to hammer out details and vote on the exact amount EduCare rates should increase for the next school year.
“We have brought forward three options,” said Butler President Jackie Vietti.
The Board of Trustees work session on May 24 yielded additional questions concerning raising rates at the college’s EduCare facility and members postponed a final decision until June.
