The Kansas City Chiefs are retiring Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Thomas’ No. 58 jersey. The ceremony is on December 6, when the Chiefs play at home against the Denver Broncos.
Thomas played 11 seasons with the Chiefs before dying in a car accident in February, 2000. He will be inducted into the Hall of Fame August 8.

The Carolina Panthers and all-pro defensive end Julius Peppers have ended their stalemate on contract disputes. Peppers finally agreed to sign the team’s one-year tender offer under the franchise worth $16.7 million. Peppers, who said he wanted the team to allow him to become a free agent, likely will show up for training camp after missing voluntary workouts and offseason minicamps.
Green Bay Packer wide receiver Greg Jennings has agreed to a new contract extension through 2012. The deal is worth a maximum of $31 million, with $5 million in incentives. Jennings, who emerged as a solid No. 2 receiver last year, was due to make the veteran minimum in the final year of his rookie contract.
