Augusta, Kan. —
Brian Prentice has been playing football for 10 years. Before his final season with the Orioles, he made it a personal goal to play as well as he could to give himself a chance to keep his football career going.
Prentice saw that goal come to fruition Tuesday afternoon. Prentice signed a letter of intent to play football for Independence Community College next school year.
“It was a smaller school, it has a study hall, so it will help me a lot with my classes,” Prentice said were things he liked about the school. “I’m used to a smaller school.
“Coaches were pretty good and said they feel like I’ll have a pretty good spot on defense,” he added.
Prentice, who played both on the offensive line and on defense for the Orioles, said he’s likely to be utilized as a linebacker and will be used in a lot of blitzing situations. He earned honorable mention All-Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div. III honors this past season.
Augusta coach Roger Robben said it was nice to see one of his players achieve his goal and was proud of his efforts.
“He’s a hard worker and he’s also a very coachable guy,” Robben said of Prentice. “He does the things you ask him to do. He’s got some innate abilities, he’s got a great attitude, comes to work in practice every day.”
Prentice said he plans to focus his studies in sports training. His parents are Kim and Brian (Sr.) Prentice.
