A source reports that the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a one-year contract with veteran wide receiver Amani Toomer. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Toomer, joined the Chiefs for practice Tuesday afternoon wearing No. 13 a day after working out for the coaches.
Toomer spent his first 13 seasons with the New York Giants. He made 668 receptions for 9,497 yards and 54 touchdowns. Toomer, who is 34 years old, had 48 catches for 580 yards and four touchdowns last season. He now is the most experienced in the Chiefs' otherwise-young receiving corp.
Rookie signings
-The Philadelphia Eagles and first-round pick Jeremy Maclin worth up to $15.5 million. Maclin, a receiver from Missouri, agreed to a five-year deal.
-The Oakland Raiders and rookie Darrius Heyward-Bey agreed on a five-year contract worth $23.5 million in guaranteed money. Heyward-Bey was the seventh overall pick.
Injury report
-Washington Redskins' defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth missed practice for a second straight day after injuring his knee last week, which required an injection to insert fluids. Haynesworth missed two games last season with the Titans after spraining that same knee, but said this injury is not related to that.
Haynesworth signed a record contract that includes $41 million in guarantees this offseason.
-Carolina Panther defensive tackle Maake Kemoeatu tore his right Achilles' tendon 30 minutes into the team's first day of training camp Monday. He likely will not play this season. The 6-foot-5, 345-pound Kemoeatu was the key cog in Carolina's run defense, often drawing double teams and opening up lanes for the linebackers.
-(AP): Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl linebacker Terrell Suggs is sitting out the Baltimore Ravens’ early practice after “tweaking” his ankle in Sunday’s practice, according to a team source. The team is taking every precaution with the star and a better update on his return to practice should be available after this session ends.
-(AP): Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson missed both practices again on Monday while doing rehab work on his injured left knee. Jackson joined his teammates outside for the first time since spraining his MCL on Saturday. But he was only able to ride a bicycle, do some light jogging and watch practice while wearing a sleeve on his knee. He still walked with a slight limp.
Coach Brad Childress said he does not have a timetable for Jackson's return but is confident he will be just fine. Childress said Jackson will return "when he can protect himself." Jackson is in a competition with Sage Rosenfels for the starting job. After looking shaky in the first three days of camp, Rosenfels had his best practice of the day on Monday as he continues to get familiar with the offense.
