Augusta's eighth grade Bluejays put up a good fight Thursday night but they just couldn't withstand the pressure Andover Central put on.

They kept it close early but lost 44-28 in the finals of the Pioneer League Tournament. The Bluejays finished the season with a 6-8 record.

Brandt Patterson opened the scoring with a three-pointer but ACMS responded with seven straight points to take an early lead.

The first quarter ended with the Jaguars clinging to a 9-8 lead after Logan Hiser hit another three for Augusta.

Andover Central would take control in the second period. Their shots started to fall that allowed them to set up their zone press defense. That pressure was too much for Augusta.

The Jaguars outscored them 14-4 in the second quarter to take a 23-12 lead into intermission.

It didn't get any better for the Bluejays after the half. Central opened a 34-16 lead before Augusta settled down and got back in the game.

Alex Causing was the dominant force inside for AMS and Colton Robinson and Joe Cannady also gave coach A.J. Bodyk some solid minutes.
