The Kansas State American Legion Baseball organization and the Augusta American Legion Post 189 announced Tuesday that a AAA Zone Tournament will be played July 26-29 at Wheeler Stadium in Augusta.

Two Butler Community College student-athletes have been nominated for the Greater Wichita Sports Commission’s College Athlete of the Year award.

The Butler athletic department has finished third nationally among community college athletic programs, the highest finish in school history. For the achievement, Butler receives a trophy and check for $1,000 for its general scholarship fund.

The Butler County Saddle Club near Leon was host to the annual Butler County Rodeo last weekend. There were performances Friday and Saturday night in most of the adult rodeo events like saddle bronc riding and barrel racing, as well as some events that were intended for children like the mini-bulls and mutton bustin’.

About 50 children are spending their Thursdays trying to improve or learn how to play the game of golf. The annual junior golf program is sponsored and being taught at Augusta Country Club. The program will conclude this year’s session on July 17.

The children’s song “Rain, Rain; Go Away!” could be a perfect anthem for this year’s Augusta American Legion baseball team.
