Tuesday afternoon G, Little Missy and I took Baby Chickadee in for her one month appointment with the pediatrician and I thought “Hey! Since we’re in Wichita I might as well spend that birthday money that I’ve been hanging onto FOR SIX MONTHS.” You’ve gotta reward yourself sometimes, and why not four weeks after having a baby and every day restraining yourself from burning your worn out clothes that no longer fit? I say if you’re teetering between a bonfire in front of your closet and spending money that has been laying around for a while, spend the money. And spend the money I did.
But since this was the first time I’d gone shopping for clothes in forever, and since I didn’t have to even glance at the maternity section, I took my time. With three children in tow. Three children all under the age of six. Going into the long afternoon of shopping I knew I’d have to give in to their requests just to keep them nice. Because really, asking two young ones to not get irritated at walking around and around and around clothing stores is a lot to ask. So we bought drinks (with caffeine! oh the excitement!) and pretzels and $.25 bouncy balls from Old Navy and topped off the day with a stop at the play area.
Keeping them occupied allowed me to take my time in stores, slowly loading up pretty clothes on Baby Chickadee’s stroller as I headed to the dressing room. And as I looked at the clothes on her stroller I congratulated myself for branching out from my usual uniform of brown and gray and black to a beautiful cornucopia of colors from red and yellow and purple with very few gray pieces. But all I bought were the gray pieces. Oh, and one brown one. I knew that I bought a lot of gray items, but laying them out on the couch in front of Hubby really made me see my problem: I am addicted to neutral clothes.
My plan to branch out and not be surrounded by gray clothes didn’t work. But at least I gave it an honest try.  And at least these new clothes fit.
