Most of the funds raised for Ignite Augusta from sign sponsorship or gate receipts are used to maintain the current displays and for the purchase of new displays. Although this volunteer organization’s name includes the word “ignite,” it’s formation was not related to July 4th fireworks at all, but rather lighting up (igniting) Garvin Park with the Winter Wonderland displays and decorating the downtown/7th St. areas during Christmas seas for the community and its visitors to enjoy.

Why was there a 5x7 tribute to Michael Jackson and nothing about Ed McMahon or Farrah Fawcett -- or did I miss them?
(Editor’s note- An editorial cartoon about Ed McMahon ran on Wednesday, June 24. Unfortunately, none of our sources offered a cartoon on Ms. Fawcett.)

Thanks to Mayor Williams and the businesses who are so generously funding our Augusta Fourth of July tradition at the last minute. In the future the community needs to help fund this event. God Bless America.
