I know it happens with everyone, but when the question “What’s been going on with you guys?” is posed to me I freeze a little bit. Not out of fear or anything, just out of nothingness. It is boring to relay the information that absolutely nothing exciting happened over the last week or so since I last saw you. But I also have this column to write, which I love doing and I am so grateful that you read it because that means Kent lets me come back to write more, but sometimes I have nothing to say aside from the bits of rambling that flutter around in my head. So today I‘ll go with those bits and pieces of information.
This week was our eighth anniversary. It is good to slow down and be struck anew by how insanely happy I am that a man I married eight years ago simply because he was extremely handsome and funny and wickedly smart turned into my best friend. We were best friends then, mostly, but now he is the person I trust most in the world with every ugly bit of me and with every annoying tick I have. With every belly laugh and conflict and trial that we make it through together we are stronger and more The Foxes. It’s perfect.
Because it was our anniversary I surprised him with a babysitter one night and he surprised me with his mom taking our kids the next night. For a day and a half we made few plans, ate when we wanted, drank coffee when we wanted, looked at baby names (we might be getting closer! Although nothing for sure yet. I will probably let you know at some point), watched movies and generally relaxed. Again, I am so thankful for two sets of grandparents who will take my kids and love on them so much that I never have to worry once if my precious kiddoes are okay.
G’s kindergarten round-up is in a few weeks. I’m doing better with this. Two months ago the very thought of sending my child to all-day kindergarten made my breathing shallow and my fists clench. But prayer works, and I have a peace now. I’m still a little nervous over the newness of it all but I know that he’ll be in good hands. A few days ago G was sitting on the couch when he looked at me “Do you think I’m ready for kindergarten?” To which I said “Definitely, baby.“ He’s such a big man in a little body.
We’re still looking for a vehicle. Car shopping is not that much fun when it drags on for over a month.
And that’s all! Hopefully my kids will say something hilarious or ridiculous or thought-provoking over the next week and then next week’s column will be more coherent.
