A passerby reported smoke coming from a home on East Kelly Tuesday afternoon and responding firefighters knocked down the fire and found a woman inside suffering from smoke inhalation.
The unnamed 77-year-old woman was a patient at the Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center burn unit in Wichita this morning.
She was carried from her bedroom to the front yard where police officers and rescuers comforted her until emergency medical personnel arrived.
They attempted to shade her with fire jackets and a cloth during the high afternoon heat.
She was taken the Wichita hospital by ambulance.
Augusta Fire Major Ray Marbut suspects an electrical problem in the kitchen and was expecting to officially rule on a cause today.
Even though the house faces on Kelly Ave, Major Marbut said the address is actually 1501 1/2 Ohio.
