An artistic airfoil feature on a new sign for Augusta Municipal Airport may not be taking flight very soon.
A proposal costing an estimated $6,850 for the composite airfoil element was tabled this week by the City Council for more research.
The concrete sign and base alone will cost an estimated $8,000.
Some Council member were concerned about cost of the art element. Others said having an unusual eye-catching element could generate more development of the facility.
The Council officially chose Option D on for a future runway alignment at Augusta Municipal Airport, west of the city. That action will allow airport consultants Bucher, Willis & Ratliff to finish plans for the expansion for the airport on the south side of U.S. 54.
During the visitors’ portion of the agenda, resident Charles Hanna presented a $5,950 bill to the city for costs incurred for installation of a drainage system at his home, 1705 State. Hanna, who has spoken to the governing body about water running into his home because of poorly designed street drainage, said he expects payment after the next Council meeting. The Council took the matter under advisement.
In other city business, it was reported there are plans for lighting the Christmas tree in the 600 block of State on Thursday, Nov. 19, for a merchant promotion.
That lighting will come a week before the annual Ignite Augusta turn-on of holiday light displays in Garvin Park on Thanksgiving night.
