Stephen Spencer will become the new pastor at the Augusta First United Methodist Church on July 1.
His appointment was recently announced at the Kansas United Methodist annual meeting.
He will be succeeding the retiring Pastor Curtis Cadenhead.
Pastor Stephen and his wife, Anna, have two children 7-year-old Sean and 4-year-old Casey.
He comes to Augusta from the Grace-Point United Methodist Church in west Wichita. Prior to that he served at St. Mark UMC, also in Wichita, and has been on staff at the Church of the Cross in Salina.
This native of California served in the U.S. Air Force and was a television news reporter before answering the call to ministry. He incorporates movies, television, and other contemporary media into traditional worship to help people connect with the Bible and make God’s word relevant to their lives.
His wife is a native of the Garden City and also has a background in communications and media.
Curtis and Manda Cadenhead are retiring to Amarillo, Texas.
