Special recognitions for two Augusta School District building principals and a local elementary school will be made by the School Board Monday night.
The Unified School District 403 Board of Education will convene at 6:30 p.m. in the district office at 2345 Greyhound Drive.
Garfield Elementary School Principal Kim Christner will be honored for being selected as the winner of the Kansas Distinguished Principal Award. Christner was also recognized at a District 3 Fall Conference last month in Wichita.
Augusta Middle School Principal Eileen Dreiling will be saluted for being recognized by the Kansas Association of Secondary School Principals (KASSP). She is an Area IV middle school honoree administrator. Dreiling was nominated and selected by peer principals.
The Robinson Elementary School staff will be honored for being awarded the prestigious Governor’s Achievement Award again this year. This is only the second year the award has been given and Robinson has earned the distinction both years. Robinson was one of only 44 elementary schools in the state to score in the top 5 percent on the spring 2008 Kansas State Reading and Math Assessments.
Another Robinson Elementary honor to be recognized will be the nomination by Commissioner Alexa Posny to U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings for the 2008-2009 No Child Left Behind—Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Program.
The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors elementary and secondary schools that make significant progress in closing the achievement gap, recognizing those schools that have a least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds and have dramatically improved student performance to high levels in reading and mathematics. The final selection of the 2009 NCLB-Blue Ribbon Schools will be made in September 2009.
Following a curriculum report new business agenda items to be discussed include:
• A report from Connie Hummel and Becky Williamson on the Kansas Association of School Business Officials (ASBO).
• A proposed board policy for Classified Employee Payment for Unused Sick Leave Upon Retirement.
Unfinished business items include discussion on an Over Site Bond Construction Committee and a construction update from Deputy Superintendent Dr. John Black.
There will be an executive session to discuss personnel.
