Fifteen years ago. Augusta school district voters approved a $14.25 million bond issue for district facilities (September of 1992).
The vote was 2,126 yes and 1,200 no.
Included in that package were:
• Remodeling and add-ons at the existing high school. Estimated cost: $3.75 million.
• Building a new middle school, Estimated cost: $6.76 million
• Construction of a new elementary school, Estimated cost: $2.75 million.
• Build a new central kitchen. Estimated cost: $630,000.
• Air conditioning all new school buildings as well as existing facilities. Estimated cost: $350,400.
District voters turned down a $4 million school improvements package in 1988.
