A bid for the Douglass 2009 street improvement program was approved Wednesday night before oaths were given to new members of the Douglass City Council.
Ferguson Paving Co., last year’s contractor, was successful bidder on the street work with a quote of $34,716.72.
Also before the oaths, the city governing body okayed a contract with Mid Kansas Engineering Consultants (MKEC) for a variety of engineering services on an as needed basis.
Oaths were administered to Mayor Jason Cathey, Council members Mike Watkins and Jo Jennings. Leaving the Douglass Council were mayor Mark Roberts and Councilwoman Kathryn Perez.
Councilman Marvin Sisk commended 18 years of dedicated service by Roberts - 11 as Councilman and seven as mayor and presented him with a plaque. Citizen Charlene said Roberts had a hand in many community improvements.
In other business, the Council:
• Approved a cereal malt beverage license for the Fastrip convenience store at First & Highway 77,
• Okayed a special use permit for the new Journey Church at 311 S. Highway 77.
• Increased the fireworks vendor fee from $3,000 to $5,000.
• Okayed use of the city swimming pool for water safety training by the fire department.
