Augusta, Kan. -

Three and a half years ago, doctors discovered Gordon Canady of Augusta had an aneurism on his aorta - the main artery of the body which supplies oxygenated blood to his body’s circulatory system. That finding lead to an repair operation.
Last year, he spent $20 on a “chest test” from the visiting medical screening program of Stroke Detection Plus and the technicians saw something for concern.
The screening detected the aorta repair and a raised a concern about its width.
Gordon took the screening information to his doctor at the Wichita Clinic and Physician Assistant Steve Bland recommended a CT Scan which prompted some changes in Canady’s blood pressure medicine.
The experience has made Canady a more regular patient as he frequently tests his blood pressure at home as well as at the doctor’s office.
He’s going for another CT Scan next month to check the aorta situation.
The retired insurance troubleshooter has an inventory job with  Augusta Auto Salvage and is a worker of  the Ignite Augusta holiday lights program in Garvin Park.
Stroke Detection Plus’ goal is to prevent disease before it disables. Using ultrasound for early detection, 75 to 80 percent of strokes can be prevented.

NEXT VISIT - Stroke Detection Plus, the mobile ultrasound service that does preventative health screenings throughout the Midwest will be conducting stroke and vascular screenings in Augusta on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the First United Methodist Church, 2420 Ohio.
