Flight simulator qualifying for anyone 8 years or older will take place Friday, June 5, in Augusta for a next-day get-together at the Kansas Museum of Miliary History, 135 S. Highway 77.
The museum will have an F-4 Thunderbird, an F-16, an F-4J Blue Angel, and an F-22 cockpit simulators as part of the Friday evening Grasshopper Festival in downtown Augusta. That’s when fliers can qualify for a Saturday competition.
The simulated flying “finals”will be held on the museum grounds following a Saturday morning parade through the downtown area.
To qualify, you must make one successful landing on a runway out of four attempts.
Points will be awarded for successful takeoff (25), flying through the St. Louis Arch (150), and successful landing (50). Bonus points are possible for performing the mission under 5, 4, and 3 minutes. There will be a Junior Class (age 15 and under), an Adult Class (age 16 and over).
