Construction of the new Lincoln Elementary School will begin this spring.
During his report to the Augusta School Board Monday night, Deputy Superntendent John Black said there’s been discussion concerning the impact of the new construction on the current playground, as the existing playground area will become part of the construction site this spring.
Students will be using the blacktop for playground and staff members will work on alternatives for the students.
Drainage and sewer issues at the Lincoln site are expected to be discussed next week with city  officials.
Repors were also made Monday on other school improvement construction sites.
At Ewalt Elementary the new primary classrooms are near completion and Principal Greg Clark is considering moving into the new classrooms just prior to Spring Break, March 10 -11.  Plans have to be formalized for using the storm shelter.
The high school auditorium is finished with the exception of correcting some ceiling issues and adding a light switch.  The roof above the stage has been replaced.
Final touches need to be made on the bleachers in the gymnasium.  The electric company has corrected some switches for fluorescents and motion detectors.  Fence and grass work at the north and west of the gym will continue as weather permits.
The dirt work has started at the high school for the four science rooms and storm shelter.  Bid packages for the shelter are due on Thursday, Feb. 11 and will be presented to the BOE at a special meeting at 5:30  p.m. on Monday, Feb. 15.
New construction at Robinson Elementary is expected to begin in early fall of 2010.  The new gym, music room and three classrooms will be built at the north end of the current building.  School staff and the architects are currently reviewing the project.
