The Arc of Butler has accepted a check from the El Dorado council of The Knights of Columbus earlier this month.
Funds were gathered from their Tootsie Roll donations. The Arc of Butler was challenged to raise $10,000 for a matching grant at the end of last year.
Knights met that challenge and raised an additional $2,000 receiving a $10,000 grant from the Wiedeman Foundation. Community organizations, foundations and businesses are learning of The Arc of Butler and the services they provide for Butler county residents with developmental disabilities.
The Knights are seeing the impact Arc makes in the community and want to help financially. The funds they raised have assisted Arc in hiring a full time executive director to continue and manage growth of the organization.
The Arc of Butler sponsors a Special Olympics team, The Butler Blazers and a Tennis Team, they also sponsor a program in area schools called Circle of Friends, matching regular ed. students with special ed. students to promote acceptance and build friendships with one another.
The Arc also holds bimonthly meetings open to the public and members to educate them on different issues relating to individuals with disabilities. Contributions like the ones made by the Knights of Columbus are necessary for The Arc of Butler.
It assists them in providing valuable Arc programs and give people with disabilities in Butler County opportunities to succeed in our communities.
