Laney Rose Relph of Augusta is the winner of The Gazette First Baby Contest of 2009 gift array.
Laney is the daughter of Tom and Myranda Relph. She arrived at 1:31 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1.
This little girl weighed seven pounds, nine ounces when she was delivered at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita on New Year’s Day. Her length was 19 3/4 inches.
The paternal grandparents are Bruce and Betsy Relph of Augusta. The maternal grandparents are Shawna and Doug Williams of Wichita.
Paternal  great-grandparents are Tom and the late Rose Relph, and the late Ed and Donna Szczepanik, all of Wichita.
 Maternal great-grandparents are Mike and Connie Williams of Grayford, TX)
Charles and Brenda Knowles (Prairie Grove, Ark., and the Late Helen King and Arvil “Poppy” King and  Edith Tillman of Fayetteville, Ark.
 Laney's paternal great grandmother (Rose) was also a New Years Baby in 1925 winning the honors for Fall River Township in Wilson County Kansas.
 When mother and daughter are dismissed from the hospital, Laney was welcomed home Friday by her 5-year-old big brother Luke.
The couple is invited to visit The Gazette, 204 E. Fifth, with a physician-certified time of birth note. This newspaper will then issue a letter notifying participating contest enterprises the Tom Relphs are the winners.
The sponsors and their gifts are Bank of The West ($50 savings bond), Miller’s 5 ($10 gift certificate), Ford of Augusta (free oil change for family car), Augusta Tire & Auto (balancing four tires on family car), Walmart ($25 gift card), Drs. Armfield Dentistry (free teeth cleaning for Mom and Dad, plus free first checkup for baby), The Fairways of Augusta ($20 Walmart gift card), Go Mart ($20 Walmart gift card).
 A Brown Liquor (one package of diapers), Emprise Bank ($25 cash), The Insurance Guys ($15  Walmart gift card) Augusta Family Practice (Basket of Baby Goodies), Superior Automotive (free oil, lube, filter and safety check on family car), Williamson Plumbing ($10 off first service call to baby’s home), Farm Bureau (one package of diapers) and Gretchen Confections (first birthday cake).

Abigail Rose Duncan of Augsuta was also born on New Year's Day.
Abigail, daughter of Lois Jeanine and Anthony Duncan, arrived at 2:54 p.m. New Year’s Day at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita. She weighed five pounds, seven ounces.
