Local visioneers talked about community Liabilities, Assets, Needs, and their Dreams (LAND) for Augusta Thursday night.
Mayor Kristey Williams and Augusta Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sharon Sudduth directed the LAND analysis. They were assisted by City Manager Bill Keefer and JJ Allen, assistant to the city manager.
Old infrastructure, location between two rivers, no youth center, lack of community image and involvement were among the items identified as liabilities.
Proximity to Wichita, City Lake, Santa Fe Lake, school system, theatre, public safety, city utilities, and a defined downtown area were noted in asset discussions.
Some of the identified needs were greater industrial and commercial growth, a minor emergency center, better curb appeal, annexation beyond the rivers, and a technology facility were seen as needs.
Dreams included more restaurants, a civic center, a sculpture walk, and an art gallery.
The next meeting of Vision Augusta will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 29 in the high school library.
