June 8 - 14, 1958
Augusta High School graduated the largest class when 101 seniors received their diplomas.
A savage tornado brought death and destruction to El Dorado. Augusta fire department and police department personnel were called upon for help. Many Augustans attempting to locate friends and family, were part of the line of cars two miles long trying to enter El Dorado from the west. Augusta residents were pitching in by collecting articles and money for the tornado victims.

June 6 - 13, 1968
Sen. Robert Kennedy was assassinated in Los Angeles by gunman Sirhan Sirhan. The country was in mourning for the 42-year-old brother of the late President John Kennedy, also assassinated. Nerino Negri, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. John West of Augusta, was to take part in Kennedy’s funeral services in New York city. Negri was to sing the oratorio of the mass.
The Lytton’s store was celebrating its 15th anniversary. It began in 1953 at 424 State St. and was later located at 305 Seventh.

June 7 - 14, 1978
Kansas Jaycees broke ground at the Cerebral Palsy Ranch, north of Augusta, for a new 2,500 square feet headquarters.
Daryl Thornton, a native Augustan and 1971 AHS graduate, joined the staff of Augusta Medical Complex, Inc. as assistant administrator.
Dale Martin, football standout from AHS, was one of 66 Kansas high school athletes chosen to take part in the Kansas Shrine football game at Kansas State University.

June 6 - 13, 1988
Gary Dryden was honored for being awarded an international ribbon and medal for Lion’s Club district leadership.
The Tri City Air Fair at the Augusta Municipal Airport featured skydivers, windwalkers, and the Confederate Air Force Ghost Squadron.
Former boxer Clare Patterson of Augusta, judged six fights one evening at the Mid-America Indian Center in Wichita.
10 YEARS AGO
June 8 - 14, 1998
Augusta High School wrestler Shawn Silvas was in Australia representing Kansas as a member of Team USA.
Doylene Foreman, who had spent 13 years at the helm of the Augusta Historical Museum, was stepping down. She was succeeded by Belinda Larsen.
Father Sam Pinkerton had assumed the pastorate at St. James Catholic Church, succeeding Father James Mainzer, who was on sabbatical leave.
