Swarm to the Augusta Public Library for summer fun!


The Augusta Public Library’s 2008 Summer Reading Club will run from Wednesday, May 28 through Friday, July 25.

The club will be offering activities three days each week, with special activities taking place each Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

All age are welcome to attend Tuesday and Friday activities, but parents may want to consider that Friday activities will be more suitable for elementary age children.  This year a special time for younger patrons, ages 3- 6 will be offered each Thursday.

Enrollment begins Wednesday, May 28 at the circulation desk in the library’s Children’s Department.  All children enrolling will receive a bookmark, a doorknob hanger, and their first reading record.

Bookworms only need to read 1 1/2 hours each week (that’s just a little more than 10 minutes each day) for five weeks of the eight week program to earn a special prize.

Mad Science kicks off Summer 2008

At 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28 Mad Science of Greater Wichita will present two spectacular science-themed shows designed to amaze and entertain.

The program is free.  All are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy on the library lawn prior to or after the show.

Seating is limited so come early for a great evening.

Bug Club Tuesdays

Picnic Storytime:  Children and their adult helpers are invited to bring a picnic lunch and join the storytellers at 11 a.m. for stories, puppet plays, wigglers, and a cookie on select Tuesdays this summer.

Make-It, Take-It:  Stop in any time between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and spend as much or little time as you want expressing your creativity.  Everything is provided for a fun craft project.

Game Day, Play Day:  Play a game and make a snack.  Kids six and older will play Bingo and win prizes; kids younger than six will play Color and Shape Bingo and win a prize.  All participants will make a snack and watch a short video beginning at 11 a.m.

Flitterbug Thursdays at 11 a.m.
A special day just for pre-schoolers 6 and under.

Flitterbugs - Join Mrs. Turner for fun buggy stories, wigglers, and activities.

KPTS Share-A-Story - Kids will be entertained with stories and fun activities from KPTS-TV staff and each participant will receive a book to take home.
“Flick”ering Fridays

Friday Flicks - Some favorite buggy movies and cartoons on the big screen every Friday at 11 a.m.   Popcorn will be available or  bring a picnic.
Great Guests

Segwick County Zoo will pay a visit at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24.  They will bring along two very special guests.  Seating is free, but limited.

Mad Science returns for a great mini-program for kids second grade and older at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11.  Reserve your seat and supplies by July 3.
