Clyde Ruple was elected president of the Augusta Jaycee Chapter.
More than 1,000 residents attended a mass meeting on taxes at the 4-H building in El Dorado.
Elaine Anglemyer of Augusta was made a lifetime member of PTA.
The first shovel of dirt was turned at the site of the new Augusta High School.

April 21 - 26, 1978
A construction worker on the U.S. 54 overpass project was injured when he fell from a steel girder.
The AHS Orioles took first place at the Valley Center Invitational Track & Field meet.
Augusta High School’s concert band and concert choir captured superior ratings at the State Music Festival. The band was directed by Carl Schminke and the choir by Don Janzen.

April 20 - 25, 1988
Robinson Elementary School celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special day of events.
Fourth ward councilman Robert Griffith was re-elected president of the Augusta City Council.
Jennifer Hillier smashed her own school record in the 3200 meters and the girls distance medley relay team raced to a fifth place finish as the Augusta girls track team participated in the prestigious Kansas University in Lawrence.

On Earth Day people all around town were cleaning up and pitching in to honor Mother Nature. Ewalt students helped clean Garvin Park.
Southwestern Bell presented a $5,000 check to the county and Augusta to be used in helping fund a study on the feasibility of reclaiming the idle refinery at the southwest edge of town.
The City Council approved a $23,700 bid for repairs and restoration of the Elmwood Cemetery mausoleum. The move was in response to a report on the deteriorating conditions of the facility.
