The students at Ewalt Elementary School recently participated in raising funds for food to be sent to Haiti.  The project was sponsored by the Ewalt Student Council (ESCO).  Teachers Brenda McCoskey and Shelly Dunsmoor are ESCO sponsors.
Jan Anderson, assistant to Rick McNary, President and CEO of Numana, visited the school on Feb. 18, to help kick off Spirit Week, and then returned last Thursday to accept the $1,215 collected.
In addition to raising funds through Spirit Week, other efforts included Val-e-Gram (friendship Valentines created and sold in-house), E-Mart school store sales, Paper Bucket friendship notes, and collected  from empty water bottles placed in each classroom.
All the money collected was given to Numana in order to send packages of food to Haiti.
The Numana food packages contain four ingredients:  rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and vitamins.   The packages are trucked to Florida and then air-lifted to Haiti.
Each package costs 30 cents to make and will feed six people.  Each dollar donated made it possible to feed 18 people.
