Robinson Elementary School will be recognized Monday night for being selected as a prestigious 2009 National Blue Ribbon School. A report is expected from staff members who attended the Nov. 3 awards ceremony in Washington, DC.
That recognition will come during the Augusta Board of Education at 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening in the district office, 2345 Greyhound Drive.
Both Robinson and Lincoln elementary schools will be honored for receiving the Governor’s Achievement Award. The third annual award honors top performing schools in the state. The two local schools were among 42 elementary schools qualifying. Specifications for the program are:
• The school must have achieved the Standard of Excellence in both reading and mathematics for 2009
• The school must have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in both reading and mathematics and one additional measure in 2009. That woud be elemetnary school attendance.
• The school must have been among schools in the top 5 percent in both reading and mathematics on the 2009 state assessments at its respective level.
The Augusta High School SkillsUSA students will be recognized for their participation and outstanding achievements at the recent Fall Leadership Conference in Hesston.
Also on Monday night’s agenda will be a curriculum report from Assistant Superintendent Lisa Brookover. She is expected to report on the progress of the Eigth Grade Laptop Initiative.
The only new business agenda item is a recommendation to replace the district’s current process for requesting substitute teachers to Aesop, an automated system. The cost effective system, used by many districts, is a web and phone based system.
There will be a district construction update, and H1N1 update, and an update on the Schools For Fair Funding lawsuit.
Board members are expected to meet in an executive session to discuss personnel matters.
Augusta, Kan. —
