The Wichita area homebuilders count two Augusta builders among their top ten.

The Wichita Business Journal recently released the top twenty-five builders in Wichita.

Craig Sharp Homes Inc. and McCollom Construction, both headquartered in downtown Augusta, are among the biggest in the area.

Craig Sharp Homes is No. 6 on the list and McCollom Construction is No. 8.

"It is really interesting that two Augusta firms do so much work in Wichita," said Mark McCollom.

The work may be done on homes in Wichita, but the benefits make their way into Butler County.

Craig Sharp Homes takes pride in the fact that they use many local sub-contractors and suppliers.

Most of their employees are from Butler County.

McCollom follows a similar principle, using local drywall installers, insulation workers and electricians in their work in east Wichita.

The No. 6 ranking for Craig Sharp Homes is impressive, but they also have a very busy remodeling and commercial construction division that didn't factor in to the rankings.

Their remodeling division has completed many projects in the area including a significant amount of work for Collegiate School in Wichita. The commercial division has built the local Mental Health Clinic and three "group homes" in El Dorado, as well as three homes built for the City of Wichita.

They also did the offices and interior work for Global Parts' huge expansion project in the Augusta Industrial Park.

McCollom also builds locally in the Lakes at Northridge, Willowbrook, Stone Lake and Country Hills developments.
