Augusta’s Park Board got a look at three proposals for new playground equipment at Bill Reed Park this week.
City Parks Superintendent Cy Ricker spoke to each of the proposals - one from a local firm and two from northeast Kansas companies - and said the new items would go in the same general area where older equipment has already been removed.
Diseased trees have also been removed and replaced with newly-planted trees.
The new pieces - swings, a climber, an elevated walkway, slides, etc. - will be compliant with the American Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
The new items will be close to the roadway between the Moyle Field softball diamond and Reed Park.
Andy Hall of the Co-ed Softball League which plays on the Moyle diamond said his organization would like to sponsor a fundraiser for Reed Park improvements. That could be combined with monies to be donated by the Evening Lions Club.
Bids for the new equipment will be reviewed by the City Council later this month. Each of the bids were around $35,000 for a new playground assortment.
