Two fireworks shows, kids walk, Garvin Park activities

Fireworks sales have begun and some snap, crackle, pops sounds have been heard around the community, albeit a bi tpremature.
Citizens are reminded the legal times to shoot legal fireworks is from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to midnight July 4.
Weather permitting Augustans will have an opportunity to see two holiday fireworks show. Both shows will start at dusk.
The first will be Thursday night at Santa Fe Lake, west of the city and north of U.S. 54 highway.
Lake caretaker Rod Davis reports the lake is full and he expects many to see the fireworks Thursday. A  $5 day pass fee will be collected at the gate that evening for non-permit holders.
A decorated boat parade will be on the lake Friday morning.
The second fireworks show will be at the Augusta City Lake - at dusk Friday night. This has been an annual event since the national  bicentennial observance in 1976.
Pro-Kleen of Augusta has underwritten a major portion of this year’s fireworks expenses.
A simple child’s patriot walk of decorated wagons, tricycles, and bicycles will move down State Street from the 600 block to Third & State at 10 a.m. Friday morning.
And this year, the Augusta Arts Council, Global Parts, and the Kansas Arts Commission are sponsoring activities in Garvin Park from 7 to 9 p.m Friday. There’s no admission charge. Bring your own chairs and refreshments.
The featured attraction will be The Blue & Gray Brass Brigade, a musical ensemble specializing in patriotic music in original forms and harmonies.
The Brigade will be on the Kerry Unrein Community Stage in Garvin Park. Also, part of the pre-fireworks festivities will be the Augusta High Drum Line, American Legion  Riders, and equipment from the local Kansas Museum of Military History.
