Douglass High School Bulldog band members will be marching Wednesday at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.
 It could be a preview of the band’s public showing during the Douglass Frontiers’ Day parade on Saturday.
Band Director Brett Martinez told the Douglass Unified School District 396 Board of Education Monday night the band has also been invited to be one of the closing bands for this year’s Arkalala Festival in Arkansas City. The DHS Bulldogs will be involved in a “music show in the dark’” at the Oct. 25 Arkalala. Their portion of that show will be presented at the Bulldogs last home football game Oct. 30.
District Technology Director Kim Hamilton reported on summer activities by her department to prepare students and staff for the start of this school year.
She said Wichita State University is interested in partnering with Douglass USD 396. Hamilton and Superintendent Rob Reynolds also reported that Douglass would be getting a robotics program and help with hologram technology.
KaLyn Nethercot brought the School Board up to speed on the Junior Football League supported by the school district and recreation commission. She said 50 kids, from first through sixth grade, are participating in the program which began its season last Saturday in the rain.
