There was no discussion Monday night before the Augusta School Board approved, 6-0, the Construction Management At-Risk process for the 2008 bond issue projects.
A selection committee for Construction Management was approved and chosen comprised of Board members McCalla and Bill Rinkenbaugh joining Assistant Superintendent John Black and Superintendent Jim Lentz.  Allan Milbradt and Corey Schultz, both with PBA Architects, will act as advisors to the committee.
“Going through all of the proposals and bids would be a very lengthy and time consuming process for the Board.  The committee can review the proposals and come back to you with recommendations,” Lentz stated.
Board President McCalla advised that it would be a couple of months before any recommendations would be presented.
 Board leaders re-elected
Bob McCalla was re-elected president  of the Augusta School Board Monday night and Carey Lee was re-elected vice president.
There were no changes concerning annual appointments and designations.
Teacher pay increases
Assistant Superintendent Black informed the board that the negotiating process with teachers went extremely well this year.
“The Augusta Education Association (AEA) approved the agreement almost unanimously.  They were excited and there were lots of happy faces,” he continued, “I feel the process truly worked...we were able to do it in a constructive way.”
Black recommended the salary and wage increases for classified and administration.  Each person and group of employees will receive a 4.45 percent increase -- a district total package increase of $295,000.  The amount of increase includes the increase in cost of health insurance and the increase in associated costs.
Also included in the agreement recommendation is increasing substitute teacher pay from $82.50 to $85 for the new school year, increasing the starting hourly wage for all classified positions by 5 cents and a 4 percent raise for Technology Director Jim Scarpelli.
The negotiated agreement was approved 6-0.
“I think the process this time was one of the smoothest I’ve been around...I want to compliment John’s work and the time Carey spent on the salary committee....we have meetings throughout the year, instead of at the end of the year with the AEA to discuss any problems that come up.  This has helped,” McCalla said
