Dr. Gary Dale Harmon, Andover Republican, has filed as a candidate for the 77th District State Representative position. He will face incumbent David Crum of Augusta in the Republican Primary Aug. 5.
Harmon is a veterinarian who started the Andover Veterinary Clinic in 1969 along with his wife Cathy, also a doctor of veterinary medicine.
He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1958. Gary received a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from K-State in 1962 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1966. He spent one year on the faculty at K-State.
Dr. Harmon served his country as chief of veterinary services at Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth, Texas.
Harmon served on the Andover Board of Eduction for 23 years and was elected president several times.
He was one of the original board member of the South Central Kansas Education Service Center now located in Clearwater. He is a past president of the Andover Kiwanis Club and a past lieutenant governor of that service organization.
Drs. Harmon are members of the Andover United Methodist Church. They live on a farm southwest of Augusta which has been in Cathy’s family since 1872.
Dr. Harmon is pro small business, pro agriculture, pro school, pro veterinary medicine and pro green.
All candidates for county and state public offices should be filed by noon of Tuesday, June 10, either with the county election office in the courthouse at El Dorado or the Secretary of State’s office at Topeka.
