Questions and concerns about a drainage plan for a northeast subdivision were satisfied Monday morning for city planners.
Engineer Martin Goedecke and potential landowner Ward Wilkinson appeared before planners and city staffers.
After 20 minutes of discussion, the planners approved a the master drainage plan for Belmont Place Third Addition.
Wilkinson said he was willing to donate the strip east of Belmont Place Third Addition to the City of Augusta.
As of Monday, Goedecke said the strip is still belongs to Augusta Developers.
There was also talk about property taxes and a special assessment on the strip.
City Manager Bill Keefer said the City is not interested until the area is cleaned up and unmowed grass was cut. After such work, the City might be ready to assume maintenance. he said, because some day the tract will be needed for the extension of Custer Lane north of Belmont.
SW 70th Changes
City Planning Commission Chairman David Berndsen found himself in the role of citizen-landowner for the second Monday in a row because of concerns he raised about Butler County changes along his property Since last Monday, he has learned the County’s right-of- way expansion plan along SW 70th Street, northeast of Augusta,  will protect a shelterbelt on the Berndsen land as well as minimize yard encroachment at his east residence.
In a letter to City Inspector Dan Allen, Butler County Public Works Director  Darryl Lutz said the County is developing an appropriate legal description for the right-of-way. He recommended planning board approval of Berndsen’s two request.
The local board obliged changing agricultural land to residential usage at 4351 SW 70th and 4852 SW 70th. This will enable lot splits at both locations.
