Last evening another outbreak of severe storms developed across southcentral Kansas. Some of the severe storms produced large hail and damaging winds and tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service the storms formed into a line that was producing heavy rainfall with activity focusing on a cold front draped across the area.
At approximately 9:07 p.m. Chief Tyler Brewer with the Augusta Safety Department spotted an area of rotation 3 1/2 miles south of Augusta, near 130th and Highway 77, and ordered the tornado sirens to sound.
He reported that the rotation was also seen by other spotters and confirmed by the National Weather Service.
The local City Electric Plant reports a total of 2.56” rainfall, although some places in the region reported up to 7 inches of rainfall overnight.
Butler County Sheriff’s Department reported that a portion of Haverhill Road, near SW 170th was closed due to high water, but barricades were removed by 9 a.m. and the road was open for traffic.
