Aurora Myers, coordinator for the Sunlight Child Advocacy Center, spoke to the Andover City Council last week about the month of April being Child Abuse Prevention Month.
She thanked the Council for endorsing a proclamation calling public attention to the abuse problem. Myers said the intervention program allows children to “tell their stories” in a neutral setting and receive counseling services, if necessary.
Myers said since its inception three years ago, the center has facilitated 400 interviews in Butler County with 55 from the Andover area.
She reminded the council the center’s annual fundraising Buckaroo Ball is slated for April 24 at Terradyne in Andover.’
Near the end of its March 30 session, the Council recessed and convened as a Public Building Commission to consider a change order from Key Construction for the water service line to the new city hall under construction in Central Park. After discussion, the Council opted for a larger public service line to serve city hall and future development. The cost was reported to be $10,150 and will be paid from the city’s water fund.
The Council approved an ordinance declaring certificates of participation necessary for a $79,000 lease-purchase agreement for acquisition of three police vehicles and a storm water utility vehicle.
