Monday was a two check, $1,500 day for William Skaggs, a Dillons employee, who has been raising money for a new “street legal” vehicle to replace a modified golf cart he has driven to and from his job at the supermarket for several years.
Late last year, local authorities advised Skaggs he was in violation of state law. A public donation account was set up at Emprise Bank-Augusta.
Monday’s contributions for an acceptable conveyance for Skaggs inched him closer to the goal.
He and his mother, Martha, along with Safety Officer Chad McCluskey, have researched the proper vehicle with windshield protection for his health condition, and she expects to order it this month from an area Sam’s Club.
.William received a $1,000 check from Dillons tthrough the " Helping Hands Fund" of Kroger Co.
He also received a $500 check from the Augusta Veterans of Foreign Wars organization.
