Augusta's middle school boys basketball teams lost a pair of close games to Wellington last Thursday.
The Crusaders beat the 8th-grade A team 51-46 despite a big rally by the Bluejays. Jayden Reynolds led Augusta with 12 points. Jake Becker scored 11, Dallin Marlnee and Kade Trebbe had eight apiece and Raef Hilt scored seven.
The Bluejays' 8th-grade B team clobbered Wellington 42-19.
Wellington edged the Bluejays' 7th-grade A team 50-48. Noah Johnson and Nate Kelley led Augusta with 14 points each. Jonny Clausing scored nine and Clay Wesbrooks had eight. Jacob Swink had two and Blake Bevan had one point.
Augusta's girls teams won three of four games at home against the Crusaders. Jayden Austin scored 15 points and Kylie McDaniel added 11 in the 7th-grade A team's 48-27 win.
Emily Hall had eight and Brooke Patterson had seven in the 7th-grade B team's 33-5 win. Ryleigh McLallen and Jordan Curry had six each.
The 8th-grade B team won 37-19. All 10 Bluejays scored in the game. The 8th-grade A team lost 38-25. Jackie Brandenburg had seven points. Taylor Hinnenkamp scored six.
