Coach Roger Robben and Augusta’s coaching staff had plenty of tough decisions to make regarding the team awards.
Several Orioles were honored with those awards Tuesday at the team’s annual banquet. The Orioles also received their varsity letters, as well as All-League certificates.
Tristan Finch was the coaching staff’s unanimous choice for team MVP. He also earned offensive and defensive backs MVPs and received his All-League awards at the quarterback and safety position.
Seniors who received team awards included All-Leaguer Colby Willis (defensive line MVP), All-Leaguer Roy Chen (linebackers MVP), Jacob Ehrlich (offensive line MVP) and Jacob Riddle (Practice Player of the Year).
Brett Hamilton was given the Heart Award, which recognizes the player who most exemplifies what the team is all about.
Connor Hurst received Wide Receiver MVP as well as his All-League honor. Trae Goken received the Special Team MVP in addition to his All-League award.
Gannon Marcotte was named the freshman team’s MVP/playmaker of the year. Nigel Callison earned the Freshman 110 Percent Award.
The four Orioles who earned the distinctive 100 Percenters Award for not missing any team activities and working toward staying ready for football all year long were freshmen Shane Bosley and Bradley Griffin, sophomore Tyler Hammond and Caleb Laubhan, a junior who earned the award for the third straight season.
A total of 22 varsity letters were earned, and 22 freshman certificates were earned. Seniors Willis, Chen, Ehrlich, Riddle, Hamilton, Nate Johnson, Tanner Brown, Preston Patterson, Nathaniel Blank and Josh Strack were honored as well.
