Pilot hurt in ultralight crash SE of town

Rodney K. Beeton, 43, of Leon, was injured when his ultralight aircraft that he was piloting crashed on take off, struck the road, hit a fence, and then a tree. The crash occurred near SW 157th and Haverhill, about 10 miles southeast of Augusta.

According to Kansas Highway Patrol reports, the aircraft unexpectedly banked and went down.

Beeton was operating the aircraft on his property and he was strapped in and wearing a helmet.

He was transported to Wesley Medical Center and his condition is unknown at this time.
