  • The Augusta Chill softball team took second place out of the 17 teams at the ASA 18U-B Heartland World Series in Kansas City this past weekend.

The Chill, who went 3-1 in pool play and outscored opponents 27-3 in those games, won their first two games Saturday with a 4-0 win against the Competitive Edge and a 12-0 win against the Power. The Chill squeaked out a 1-0 win against the Lawrence Phenix before losing to the Manhattan Optimist Lasers 3-1.

But the Chill weren’t done. In the consolation bracket, they beat the Power again 2-0 to earn another crack at the Lasers in the championship game. The Lasers edged the Chill once again by a 2-1 score, giving the Chill the runner-up trophy
