• Bluestem baseball team advances to semis, Douglass eliminated

  • Bluestem’s baseball team steamrolled Belle Plaine 13-3 after five innings to advance to the semifinal round of the Class 3A regional tournament in Douglass in Monday.


    Cody Easterday was 3-for-4 and Steve Smith was 2-for-3 with five RBIs for the Lions (17-4). Matt Womacks was 1-for-2 with three runs. Dylan?Chilcott and John Stiger added a hit apiece.

    Cooper Minnick allowed just one hit in three innings while striking out four and issuing three walks.

    Up next for the Lions is Halstead (14-7), which defeated the host Douglass Bulldogs 4-2 in the first round. Sedgwick (18-2) plays Independent (13-8) in the other semifinal. Bluestem plays at 4:30 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for 7.
