• Bluejays win seven PL championships, finish season with four records

  • Augusta’s middle school track and field teams had seven  championship performances at the season-ending Pioneer League meet Tuesday.


    Dawson Journey won the PL?title in the 7th-grade 100-meter hurdles race. He finished with a time of 16.82 seconds. He also took third place in the 200-m hurdles (31.01).

    Matt Canedy won the PL championship in the 7th-grade 1600-m race. He finished with a time of 5:25.56. He also took second place in the  800-m race (2:27.59).

    Carley Phillips won the PL?title in the 8th-grade long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 4.75 inches. She took second in high jump, as well (4’8”).

    Rob Winzer won the PL?title in the 8th-grade discus with a throw of 128’2”. He also took second in high jump (5’6”).

    Augusta’s 8th-grade boys relay team (Winzer, Martindale, Barker and Willis) won the 4x100-m race (49.40).

    The 7th-grade boys 4x200-m relay team (Jackson, Reynolds, Faulconer and Journey) won the PL?title with a time of 1:52.01. The Bluejays’ 4x400-m relay (Hilt, Canedy, Reichardt and Stevenson) also took first place (4:13.28).

    Hailey Scholl took the runner-up title in the 8th-grade 400-m race. She finished in 1:07.11. Riley Zerr took third place with a time of 1:07.20.


    New AMS records set this season



    Tiara Anderson             200-m race

    Anderson tied the 7th-grade girls team record with a time of 28.90 seconds.


    8th-grade girls              800-m relay

    Riley Zerr, Carly Phillips, Kaitlin Markham and Courtney Davis set a new mark with a time of 1:55.95. Previous record was 1:57.90 set by Krystal Wright, Kali Taylor, Abby Nordman and Aubrey Hess in 2001.


    Dawson Journey          200-m hurdles

    Journey set a new record for the 7th-grade boys with a time of 30.09 seconds, beating the previous mark of 31.7 by Aaron Hamilton in 2004.


    Raef Hilt                       400-m race

    Hilt finished the race in 58.39 seconds, beating the previous 7th-grade boys record of 58.7 set by Gabe Garcia in 1988.
